PrtyLyF

2018
100 min, Theater-performance, 3D printed reactive mask, lights
AvantGarden Theatre
Trondheim, Norway

In the summer of 2018 I was asked by the Bosnian-Norwegian artist Ibrahim Fazlic to join the team for his upcoming production PrtyLyf as a dramaturg and scenographer. The concept of scenography is familiar to my practice, but to dramaturgy I felt some resistance as this had become a releativistic buzzword outside the field of theatre. Social dramaturgs, political dramaturgs and even culinary dramaturgs were rising up in the art paradigm. After some time of reflection and negotiation I got on board neither as scenographer nor as dramaturg, but simply as an artist engaging with another artist's ideas.
It turned out in a very animated sequence of events where the division of labour is not an accent of styles but a seamless amalgam of creative effort.
My main contribution is the setting of the stage - scenography if you will - with interactive elements, and the addition of another character to the play materialised in a reactive 3D printed mask.
The mask is designed through algorithms (Grasshopper).
