Martinus Suijkerbuijk, (b 1980, The Netherlands)
Currently living in Trondheim (NO)

Challenging the boundaries between art, philosophy and science is an essential part of my work. It anticipates the increasing complexity of the present and rethinks what it means to be human in the time of ubiquitous technology. It does not reject but disassembles and re-utilises technology to propagate artistic and philosophical expression. My work is presented in multi-media installations consisting of: sculpture, digital media and lecture-performances. They don’t function as a display, but actively stimulate and provoke a discourse from multi-disciplinary perspectives. Often I use an overarching fictional narrative to intensify the embedded ideas and stitch the different disciplines together. My installations are an experiment to redefine the term ‘gesamstkunstwerk’ in a contemporary context within a digital epoch, but without claiming totality or completion. They extend beyond solely artistic means and project to stimulate multiple senses.
Within my lecture-performances I deploy a variety of tools and formats to experiment with different transmissions of knowledge and concepts that revoke a strictly pedagogical relation, but instead probe for an intuitive and affective conception.
